Humane & AI

⚡Humane AI Pin, Yay or Nay?

What Happened: 

Humane officialy unveiled its $699 AI Pin, a screenless wearable device powered with AI. It is activated through voice or handgestures, and can visually turn your palm into a screen with a built in projector.

Key features:

• Answering calls and texts → This feature functions independently without a phone in collaboration with T-mobile.

• Playing music with built in speakers and taking photos & videos by simply tapping the pin. Is Humane trying to replace smartphones?

• Live Translation → This could prove useful when traveling around the world.

• It comes with battery boosters, adapter, charge pad, charge case and a cable. Apple take note! You can also get cellular coverage for extra cost.

Our Thoughts: 

Humane sees its AI Pin as a revolutionary hands free device that could potentially dethrone smartphones.

However, despite being designed by ex-Apple employees and having the handy translation feature, it lacks much originality, and the demo lacked… charisma that innovative technology require.

It has potential but time will tell how users feel about this device.

Samsung & AI

🤖Samsung Joins AI Race With Gauss, Its ChatGPT Rival

What Happened: 

Samsung unveiled its generative AI model Gauss during the Samsung AI Forum 2023. It’s named after the legendary mathematician, Carl Friedrich Gauss, who established normal distribution theory.

Key Features:

• Samsung Gauss Language → Facilitates tasks such as writing emails, summarizing and translating documents.

• Samsung Gauss Code → Enables developers to code easily and swiftly.

• Samsung Gauss Image → Generates images which you can edit.

Why It’s Important: 

Samsung is the latest tech company to join the AI race with its own AI model to rival ChatGPT. Samsung plans to expand Guass to a variety of Samsung product applications to provide new user experience in the near future.

Amazon & AI

💰Amazon Invests Millions To Train Ambitious AI Model Olympus

What Happened: 

Amazon has reportedly dedicated a team to train an ambitious large language model, Olympus, in hopes it could rival AI models from Open AI and Alphabet.

Olympus will supposedly have 2 trillion parameters, making it one of the largest models being trained. In comparison, OpenAI’s GPT-4 model has one trillion parameters.

Why It’s Relevant: 

Amazon is late to the AI party, but it definitely has the resources to catch up and make an impact. It’s important to note that while all these details have leaked, Amazon has not officially announced Olympus.

Meta & AI

📲Meta Combats Political Use Of Fake AI Generated Content

What Happened: 

Meta announced that it will require political advisers to disclose AI featured content, in an effort to stop potentially misleading or fake AI altered content. Meta has also banned political advertisers from using generative AI ad tools.

The policy will be enforced next year.

Why It’s Relevant: 

In an age of widespread disinformation and fake news, AI has already shown it could amplify the disinformation problem. Having said that, whether Meta will successfully establish a system that blocks all fake AI content or only for some political advisers, remains to be seen.

OpenAI & ChatGPT

🥷OpenAI Blames DDos Attack For ChatGPT Outage

What Happened: 

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has experienced unexpected sporadic outages. Initially, the company has blamed the issue on increased interest in the platform’s new features following their announcements last week at OpenAI DevDay.

Since then, OpenAI has confirmed that a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is behind these outages, which has affected ChatGPT and disabled users from accessing it.

It is reported that hacktivist group Anonymous took credit for the alleged attack.

Do you need to worry?

There are no lingering issues. ChatGPT is back online.

💥YouTube tests generative AI features to improve viewing experience

Youtube announced it will begin to experiment with new generative AI features, including a conversational tool regarding Youtube content and recommendations, as well as a summarizer in the comments section. The new features will be available for paid subscribers of the premium package.

🎥Hollywood Actors strike regarding AI officially ends in deal

The Actors Guilds reached a tentative agreement with the studios, ending a 118-day strike. The strike followed a wave of disagreements about the use of artificial intelligence to portray actors and how that translates for their residual compensations.
