WEF & AI
The Story:
Last week was the World Economic Forum at Davos, where leaders of the political and business worlds meet and discuss key issues such as climate change. This year’s theme was overwhelmed with Artificial Intelligence.
Bill Gates was among those who are bullish on AI and predicting it will be commonuse soon enough.
Others like Salesforce CEO are unhappy with how AI companies are allegedly stealing intellectual properties to build their technology.
Why It’s Important:
Artificial Intelligence will no doubt shape how businesses and national systems are run. It is a sign of its great impact that is dominated the agenda at the World Economic Forum.

Elon Musk & AI
What Happened:
Musk is asking Tesla’s board to give him shares worth more than $80 billion, giving him around 25% voting control, so he can develop products based on artificial intelligence.
He further threatened that if they refuse, he will pursue other ventures outside of Tesla. He tweeted on X “I’m uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in AI & robotics without having 25% voting control.”
Why It’s Relevant:
The idea is for Elon Musk to be influential enough in decision making and not be overturned. Sounds like someone learned from the recent OpenAI debacle. Whether the move is justified or how the board will react remains to be seen. Musk proves again his determination to be a leader in the AI space.
Maths & AI
The Story:
Alpha Geometry is an AI system that can solve complex geometry problems from mathematical olympiads - almost grading as well as the human gold medalists.
Why It’s Important:
This is the best performance we have seen from an AI system undergoing mathematical problems compared to humans. It’s important because AI researchers universally agree that the better an AI is at solving maths problems, the closer we are to AGI.
