It’s Happening!
AI startup Prophetic just introduced Morpheus-1, the world’s “first multi-modal generative ultrasonic transformer”. Sounds complicated, but it basically is supposed to induce and stabilize lucid dreams.
Prophetic created Morpheus-1 by merging machine learning and ultrasound waves to detect REM sleep (stage of sleep where dreams happen), and stimulate dreams that users can control.

Morpheus-1 will be available for beta users this Spring.
Why it matters: Ready to control your dreams? With so much still left to understand about the brain and sleep, combining AI with neuroscience could be a major unlock for demystifying and expanding human consciousness.

The Story:
US Federal Trade Commission subpeonas tech giants including OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet (Google), Amazon and Anthropic to inquire on investments they have done including generative AI companies.
Generative AI has been critized worldwide by lawmakers and regulators due to fraud concerns and possible national security threats.
Several deals among the big tech companies have raised attention and antitrust concenrs that FTC will be investigating. An important aspect will be how these partnerships affect decisions on product pricing.
The companies have 45 days to respond.
Why It’s Relevant:
This could shape how deals are worked from now onwards. Tech giants have invested heavily in Generative AI and possible have killed competitiveness, in an area that really needs competition.
Apple & AI
The Race:
Apple is reportedly increasing its AI acquisitions and redesigned chips to transform its next generation of Iphones into AI Phones - just as Samsung has done with its new AI phones.
Apple claim its new chips have higher performance for AI computing, with better processing upgrades.
A recent Apple research paper has outline breakthroughs in fitting AI models onto phones.
Why It’s Important:
Apple has been more or less quiet in the AI space, compared to other tech giants. This shows they’ve always been in the game, just silently working. With Samsung releasing S24 and exploding the AI Phones Race - Apple just let us know they’re still in the game.

What Happened:
HH Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Dhabi Ruler, establishes the “Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council”. The council will guide the country’s digital landscape in shaping its future.
The council will initiate programs that support the research and development of AI in collaboration with global & local partners.
Why It’s Relevant:
More countries are fully embracing AI, and creating infrastructure for it really proves that. This will enable a global adaptation of AI in people’s daily lives.
Creativity & AI
The Story:
Google reveals Lumiere, an AI model for impressive and realistic text-to-video generation that enables users easy and creative control.
Lumiere implements a “space-time” neural network to create short videos smoothly and efficiently. Videos are generated through prompts.
Give it a try! It’s pretty cool.
Why It’s Important:
This area of AI application has been continuously growing, and as more people get to generate realistic videos from prompts, it will be interesting to see how the film industry develops and whether users will have a hand in developing their own films someday.
INTERESTING NEWS
The unlikely partnership will focus on AI Safety Development - proving that collaboration between “rival countries” can be beneficial.
With so many deepfakes running rampant on the internet, politicians have been denying allegations of wrongdoings by stating the recordings or videos are actually AI (when they are not) - challenging the very concept of truth.I TOOLS
