HIGHLIGHTS

OpenAI & AI

What Happened:

OpenAI reveals its own generative video model: Sora

Like most generative video models, it can create videos from text prompts. What’s impressive about Sora is the quality and detailed nature of the clips that look no different than reality.

AI will most definitely be useful for content creators and film industry but it will be hard to tell in the future if footage is real or AI.

However, OpenAI has not released Sora yet as they are still testing it but you can bet everyone will be using it upon its release.

Cybersecurity & AI

The Story:

Hackers from certain nations have repoterdly used OpenAI’s systems for their cyberattacks.

Microsoft tracks hacking groups, both cybercriminals and nation-states, that use OpenAI’s systems and disrupts their use.

Why It’s Relevant:

AI is an innovative tool, and just like any tool, it could be used for good or bad. This is the ugly side of AI where individuals can use artificial intelligence for their cyberattacks and threaten national securities.

Warfare & AI

The News:

Israel’s army deployed AI-enabled military technology in combat for the first time.

These technologies are AI-powered gunsights and robotic drones are using for operations above and below ground.

Why It’s Important:

We have always balanced the good and evil that comes off AI. One of the aspects most experts fear is the use of autonomous and AI-powered weapons in modern warfare. There needs to be regulations on this matter.

Technology & AI

Que Pasa:

AI-powered robot trained to read brailled 2x faster than human speed.

The robot was able to read 315 words per minute at almost 90% accuracy.

Why It’s Relevant:

This development pushes research into crucial and high sensitivity related area such as the development of robot hands and prosthetics.

Funding & AI

The Story:

You read that right, $7 Trillion (with a T). You can probably buy a few countries with that kinda money.

Bold vision or delusional fantasy? Time will tell.

Sam Altman believes the worlds needs more AI infrastructure than currently exists. This includes, capacity, energy, datacenters, chips, etc.. He is planning to build this infrastructure on a massive scale to always have supply that meets demand.

Why It’s Important:

It seems like an absurd amount of money that could probably be used elsewhere like, to tackle poverty? Sam Altman’s ambitions keep rising and with him gaining more power on the OpenAI board it will be interesting to see how his decisions will keep getting bigger.

INTERESTING NEWS

Jailed Ex-Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Uses AI to Deliver Election ‘Victory Speech”. Pretty badass to deliver a victory speech from prison. That’s AI for you.

Most of the world's largest tech companies, including Amazon, Google and Microsoft, have agreed to tackle what they are calling deceptive artificial intelligence (AI) in elections.

He’s the sole owner. Is there a conflict of interest here? Does OpenAI’s strange structure allow this?
